How to Manage and Take Care of Your Pet Parrot
Pet owners and pets must get used to each other. It would be impossible to get along overnight, but with some patience and hard work, your pet will eventually become more like a member of the family rather than pet. Parrots are endearing and intelligent creatures. However, you must study how to manage your pet. It is also important to learn their behavior beforehand in order to handle them better. Macaws are moody and may nip their owners. Although they are colorful and attractive, you should reconsider buying them if you have inquisitive, small children in the house. Cockatoos are naturally noisy and loud. If you need quiet time at home, then this parrot may not be for you. If you value intellect over affection, then the African Gray will suit you. They may not be as cuddly as the conure, lories or lorikeets but they can learn a wider range of vocabularies and tricks.

Most parrots can be fed with store-bought pellets. Pellets are formulated to give the balanced diet your pet needs. However, it is also best to supplement their meals with seeds, fresh fruits and vegetables. They can eat almost all kinds of vegetables and fruits such as squash, corn, broccoli, spinach, pears, papayas, berries, pineapples and melons. Lories and lorikeets must be fed with nectars. Do not feed them with avocadoes, sprouted lima, navy beans, chocolates, junk food, caffeine or alcohol.
Parrots need attention. As mentioned, they are intelligent birds. They enjoy interacting with owners. Some may not be as affectionate and others may be moody, but they all enjoy mental challenges. Give your pet puzzles and maze, and toys they can peck or play with. Make sure though, that these toys are free from poisonous substance and will not harm the bird’s beak, toes or wings.
